“Our Active Sun” with Jon Thomas

September 8, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Although the Sun is just an average star, it plays a significant role in our solar system. Overall properties of the Sun are given including size, distance, energy output, composition, and age. A very famous equation reveals the origin of the Sun’s energy and how that energy is transported. A variety of solar activity observed from the Earth in various regions of the spectrum is shown with videos – sunspots, granulation, complex magnetic field interactions, flares, coronal mass ejections, the solar corona and solar wind. Finally, the fate of the Sun is discussed.
